Preserve Your Travel Memories

It seems impossible that you could ever forget any of the memorable details from a great trip. Unfortunately, what seemed unforgettable in the moment has a tendency to fade with time. Writer/photographer and Matador contributing editor Kate Siobhan shares her tips and tricks for capturing your travel memories.

Be a journalist. Keep a notebook:

Keep a notebook and take notes on a daily basis about where you went, when, with whom and what you did. So squeeze off a couple of images just as you pull up.

Keep a scrapbook:

It could be a folder, or even just a Ziploc bag. But each time you pick up information, store it all in the same place. Keep flyers, business cards, receipts and more.

Document the people:

The golden rule is: Always ask first. It's as easy as lifting your camera and saying, "Foto?" which is understood in most languages.

A few things to think about: the colors, patterns and textures; cultural clothing; meals and drinks; other unique details that set this place apart from other places you've been.
